Farmer the Band

Farmer The Band are multi tasking, multi instrumentalist, indie folksters based in southern BC. Their Americana – sorry, Canadiana – songwriting and storytelling has taken the new band twice across Canada. The duo’s folk roots music fills the stage with vocal harmonies, guitar, bass, harmonica, drums, percussion, and anything else that’s in arm’s (or foot’s) reach. Their songs and stage set up will draw you in. Touring as a duo, the “two-person-one-man-band” delivers a full ensemble sound live off the floor with no looping, just honest musicality and love for what they do.

Harp Dog Brown with Blue Pearl Opening

CLAAS is extremely proud to present Harpdog Brown and the Uptown Blues Band! Harpdog Brown is a gifted singer and an imaginative harmonica player that has been a strong force in Canada’s Blues scene since 1982.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta and based in Vancouver, British Columbia, he’s crossed tens of thousands of miles playing club dates and festivals in Canada, North Western United States and Germany.

Over the years Harpdog, yes that is his real name as his passport will attest, has issued 4 CD’s to critical acclaim.  Back in 1995 his Home is Where The Harp Is won the coveted Muddy Award for the Best North West Blues Release, from the Cascade Blues Association in Portland.  He is still the only Canadian to do so.  A Juno Nomination for the best Blues Release in Canada followed that same year.  Teamed up with Graham Guest on piano, his CD Naturally was voted #1 Canadian Blues Album of 2011 by The Blind Lemon Survey.  Most recently Harpdog was honoured with his second consecutive Maple Blues Award for Harmonica Player of the Year by the Toronto Blues Society. Add to that a second consecutive nomination for Blues Artist of the Year by the Western Canadian Music Awards.  These are outstanding accomplishments that clearly solidify his rise in popularity and a new beginning in his career.

The album that delivered his first Maple Blues Award, titled What It Is, maintained status in the blues and roots charts throughout the year and in fact was ranked #20 worldwide Roots Music Report: Top 100 Blues Albums of 2014.

As Harpdog recently put it, "After more than 30 years of blood, sweat and tears, it feels like I'm just getting started.  I'm only 54 - that's young in the blues world!"

Dustin Bentall

Dustin Bentall returns to the Christina Lake Welcome Centre, this time solo! Dustin Bentall hails from Vancouver, BC and is the son of Barney Bentall.

He has been described as a rustic troubadour with his own spin on the Amercana music genre. The narcotic cowboy thing you hear in Dustin’s music comes from his love for Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers and the Byrds with their so-called ‘Cosmic American Music.’ That is, not to mention the time he has spent in the saddle ropin’ and branding steers on the ranch.

Always a highlight when we get him to play in our little piece of paradise. Enjoy an outdoor evening of fantastic music performed by this extremely talented musician and performer.

Tiger Moon

Tiger Moon

CLAAS is proud to present Kelowna's own Tiger Moon performing live at the Christina Lake Welcome Centre!

Tiger Moon is a West Canadian Folk duo - elements of Bluegrass and Country music wrap their devout Folk sound into a completely unique sound and structure. Dan Tait and Kasey Graff Boast harmonious sounds, heartfelt melodies, and foot-stomping rhythms - they are a pair to be reckoned with. They perform with a guitar, mandolin, foot percussion, two sets of boots and two big, rich voices. Drawing their sound from traditional folk, Canadiana, soul and rock, they are a minimalist barn-burning band with syrup-soaked harmonies.

"Just imagine Earl Scruggs was dreaming that Dolly Parton and Led Zeppelin had a baby band. Then they let Steve Earle and the Dukes co-parent with Jim Beam and that is just a hint at what you can expect from Tiger Moon."
-House Concert Host Craig M. in Summerland, BC

Tiger Moon came to be in 2012 when Kasey Graff and Dan Tait, each already forging their own music careers,  found one another in downtown Kelowna. They discovered a beautiful chemistry together and began performing as a duo at jam nights and coffeehouses. Shortly thereafter, the couple became serious about their music and began wowing crowds with their rich, harmony-driven sound.

In September 2013 the pair ultimately put their money where their mouth was. They released their self titled EP and sold all their possessions to undertake a massive tour across North America; learning about the land and the people; and sharing their music with the people in every town they visited. Tiger Moon travelled for seven months – over 22,000 Kms - in a 1981 Volkswagen Westfalia, across Canada, from BC to Quebec, down the American eastern seaboard, along the southern states and up the western American coast. They met and jammed with the locals, expanded their musical vision and compiled these new experiences into a lyrical voice.

AllenSong

"The essence of "Allensong" is songwriting, with strong lyrical stories built on beautiful melodies that weave a captivating commentary in a fusion of folk, pop, roots and country, with the odd dash of reggae. It's music that hits your heart in original, introspective songs that are presented with a romantic feel and a laid back vibe. Paul's unique melodic picking style, soulful baritone voice and the imagery of the lyrics sung in two-part harmony, do a great job of transmitting emotion. Allensong is not a dance band but a listening treasure!"

Paul Allen is an award winning SOCAN songwriter and performer who has appeared with artists such as Kenny Shields, Streetheart, Messenjah, Grapes of Wrath, Spirit of the West, Jann Arden and Sarah McLachlan. His diverse writing style has made him the past recipient of multiple songwriting awards from the Canadian Recording Industry Association, he is a semi-finalists in the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition and Allensong was nominated for a 2018 Kootenay Music Award. Allensong will be touring through 2018 in support of their new album "Eternal Soul".

Petra Allen provides the backing vocals in "Allensong". Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, her mother loved country music and was a good singer, teaching Petra old Irish and English pub songs that made for much fun. Her father liked his classical music played loud and Petra was part of a 400 voice choir which gave her a lasting appreciation for classical music. In 1982 she moved to Alberta, Canada and met Paul when he was playing with “Activate” and became a fan of his music. They began dating and eventually married. It's only recently when Paul needed to try out harmonies for his songs that they discovered that their voices blended and Petra began appearing with him in concert as Allensong.
